Oyo still ranks high on FGM

A group, One Life Initiative for Human Development, has stressed the need for enforcement of the child health right in Oyo State to stem female genital mutilation (FGM), a practice said to be detrimental to the wellbeing of the girl child. Speaking at an advocacy visit to Ibadan North Local government, the Programme and Media Manager, One Life Initiative for Human Development, Sola Fagarusi said this was important because Oyo State was among states with high incidence of female genital mutilation in Nigeria. Fagarusi, who was represented by Rachael Arowolo, puts FGM cases in Oyo State at 70 per cent, with most cases done in local governments such as Kajola, Oyo West, Ogbomoso North and South, Ibarapa and Akinyele. Gas explosion: Buhari condoles Ghanaian President

  President Muhammadu Buhari has spoken to President Nana Akufo-Addo to offer heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Ghana on the gas explosions in the Legon suburb of Accra last Saturday. He offered the condolences in a telephone call  on Sunday , praying for those who lost loved ones and friends in the tragedy and a speedy recovery for the injured. According to a statement issued in Abuja  on Monday  by his spokesman, Femi Adesina, Buhari told his Ghanaian counterpart that his personal thoughts and prayers, as well as that of all Nigerians, are with our Ghanaian brothers and sisters as they mourn their loved ones. Court’s judgement on tariff review reversed, to be re-visited ― Fashola

  Court order which declared the tariff review process illegal has been reversed and to be tried afresh, the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola  on Monday  stated. He also disclosed that measures have been put in place to recover about N100billion debts owed to Generation Companies (GenCos) by international customers comprising of Republic of Benin and Niger. The Minister stated this at the 20th monthly meeting with operators in the power sector, hosted by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) at the Z05 Injection Substation along Owerri-Onitsha Road, Owerri, Imo State. Fashola who commended the Court of Appeal’s intervention on the case involving tariff review stressed the importance of the judiciary and law enforcement in the power sector.
